S.A. Agulhas II for South African Department of Environmental Affairs (NB 1369)

STX Finland Oy and the South African Department of Environmental Affairs has signed a contract for construction of a Polar Supply and Research Vessel. The ship with a value of approximately EUR 116 million will bring some 600 man-years of work.

The ship will function as a multi-purpose vessel, serving, among other things, as a supply vessel, research vessel, icebreaker, expedition vessel, as well as a passenger ship. The ice-strengthened vessel will be approximately 134 metres long and it will have accommodation for a crew of 45 and some 100 researchers or passengers.

Spirit of Britain (NB 1367) for P&O Ferries

Spirit of Britain (NB 1367) для P&O Ferries

The newest and the most advanced technology is being utilised in the design and construction of these two car-passenger ferries. Special attention is paid to environmentally friendly and energy efficient solutions and safety. With a gross tonnage of 47 600 and 213 meters in lenght, the ferries will be the largest vessels to fit present facilities in the ports and the first Channel ferries designed to manoeuvre under their own power. Spirit of Britain was delivered from STX Finland Rauma shipyard on January 2011. Her sistership, to be named Spirit of France, will be delivered in September 2011. Both ships will have space for more than 180 freight vehicles, more than doubling the freight carrying capacity of the ships they are replacing, whilst also providing a third vehicle deck for up to 195 cars.

ARMORIQUE (NB 1362)

ARMORIQUE (NB 1362)

On 26 January 2009 STX Europe delivered car-passenger ferry "Armorique" to the French opeator Brittany Ferries. The vessel is worth approximately 110 million euro and has given some 700 man years of work for the yard. The ferry is designed to carry passengers, cars and road cargo vehicles between France and the United Kingdom at a speed of 23 knots.

The 168.3 m long and 26.8 m wide vessel, which has been developed in a close co-operation between the Owner and the yard, will have space for 1,500 passengers and 1.1 kilometres of vehicle deck space.

BALTIC PRINCESS (NB 1361)

The vessel delivered in summer 2008 from STX Europe shipyard in Helsinki is a sister ship to MS Galaxy delivered from Rauma on 18 April 2006. The 212 metres long and 29 m wide vessel is one of the biggest and fastest cruise ferries in the Baltic Sea, having capacity for 2,800 passengers and with a speed of 24.5 knots.

The guiding principle in designing the vessel has been paying attention to the comfort and luxury of present-day passengers. There is maximal use of high-tech solutions onboard. 927 cabins, several restaurants and places to entertain of various style and class as well as a remarkable conference centre with over 450 seats make the ship a multi functional sea-based hotel with excellent ambience.

OASIS OF THE SEAS (NB 1363) for Royal Caribbean

The Oasis of the Seas marks an unforeseen step forward in the development of cruise vessels and opens totally new prospects for cruise business. The gigantic size of the ship provides opportunities for a variety of novel functions.

Bold design approach The Oasis of the Seas and its sister ship, the Allure of the Seas, scheduled for delivery from the Turku shipyard at the end of 2010, can be called the most powerful and sophisticated vessels in the world for a good reason. These floating vacation oases are tours-de-force resulting from a long product development cooperation between the cruise line, the shipyard and the maritime cluster that has lasted more than forty years.

The Oasis of the Seas is 361 meters long and 66 meters wide at its widest point and, at the highest, it rises 72 meters above the sea level. The gross tonnage is 225,000. At the best, the vessel can accommodate 6,360 passengers and 2,100 crew members. The ship features 16 passenger decks and 2,704 staterooms. The total power output of the ship's engines is 97,000 kW and the cruise speed is 22.6 knots.
